It may have been the weekend that a team laid down a marker in Serie A's closely fought title battle, with an outright leader emerging at the top of the table.

At the other end, there was another big win for Hellas Verona, as the misery continues for one of Italy's most famous names.

Here's a round-up of the big talking points from Serie A's matchday 15.

Inter take control

There's a new leader at the top of Serie A after a weekend where Inter took full advantage of the dropped points by their rivals.

Going into the round, it was Milan who topped the table, but they were far from their best on Sunday morning as they had to come from behind at home to Sassuolo and could only manage a 2-2 draw.

Enter Christian Chivu's side, who continued to show their efficiency this season, by winning away at Genoa to leapfrog their city foes and take a one-point advantage at the summit.

Inter have far from been at their best so far, but they've been the most ruthless team when they've had to be, and in Lautaro Martinez, they have the league's most in-form striker, who leads the goalscoring chart.

The Nerazzurri could now be the team to beat in what's already been a topsy-turvy chase at the top of the league table.

Napoli suffer more away-day blues

Inter's move to the top was also helped by the champions coming unstuck on their travels once again, this time at Udinese.

For all the good we've seen from Napoli at home - even beating rivals Inter - it's their away form that could be their downfall in their title defence.

Against Udinese, they had more of the ball, but couldn't turn that pressure into chances, with the hosts registering more shots and having two goals ruled out by VAR.

All four of their defeats in 2025-26 have come away from the Digeo Armando Maradona Stadium, accounting for 50% of their games on the road.

Those stats are simply not good enough to retain a league title, and it's a matter Antonio Conte needs to address - quickly.

Fiorentina flop, again

Fiorentina's season went from bad to worringly irreversible this weekend as they suffered a ninth defeat in a row, this time to their nearest rivals at the bottom, Hellas Verona.

It means the Viola are still to register a win in 2025-26 and are now eight points from safety at the bottom of the table. It represents a remarkable fall from grace for a team that finished in a European spot last season, and creates a monumental task for Paolo Vanoli to turn the club's season around.

No Serie A team have ever avoided relegation having not won in any of their first 15 games, so the odds are now fully against Fiorentina this term.

As for Verona, they've now won two on the bounce after their own winless start to the season, giving them a real chance of avoiding the drop.
