Stan Collymore believes Champions League exit raises more questions on Slot's Liverpool future

The exclamation point on Liverpool's disappointing campaign was confirmed on Tuesday as they exited the Champions League at the hands of PSG.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, the Reds failed to deliver one of their famous Anfield nights and succumbed to another 2-0 loss, seeing the reigning European champions sail through 4-0 on aggregate.

It was another damning result for boss Arne Slot, with pressure on the Dutchman following a campaign in which his team have failed to live up to their title-winning form last year.

Yet, despite calls for a change this summer, Stan Collymore believes that although questions should rightfully be raised in Slot's direction, he can't see the club parting ways with him just yet.

"I don’t think departing the Champions League at this stage will make a difference for Arne Slot," Collymore exclusivly told DAZN News, thanks to Best Betting Bonuses

"If you look at their form this season, you’d probably say that reaching the quarter-finals is about par. I don’t think anybody would have looked at this Liverpool side and thought it’s a surprise that they’re going out to PSG at this stage.

"However, if they don’t qualify for the Champions League next season, then that asks a lot of different questions about Arne Slot.

"The team will be losing Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, which will be two pairs of very big boots to fill, so they have to be in a good position to recruit top-quality players.

"Will top-quality players like Michael Olise want to join Liverpool if they’re in the Europa League? I don’t think he will.

"Having said that, even if Liverpool don’t get into the Champions League, I think they’ll keep Slot.

"I think winning the Premier League last season has bought him a lot of wiggle room, so I think he’ll stay, whatever happens."

As for PSG, they go into the final four, looking to become only the second team ever to retain the Champions League.

They'll face a tougher test in the semi-final, with a possible date against Real Madrid or, more likely, Bayern Munich, but Collymore thinks they'll triumph once again.

Adding, "I think Arsenal will limp across the line in the Premier League and they’ll have to concentrate in order to compete with Manchester City breathing down their neck.

"It makes Arsenal’s Champions League campaign much more difficult, so I don’t think they’ll win it overall.

"Bayern will definitely be amongst it. They’re in great form, especially as the Bundesliga is a cakewalk for them most seasons.

"Harry Kane is scoring goals for fun and he’ll be key if they’re to get into the final.

"PSG are however, the team to beat – they look like they’re starting to cook at the right time. Their performances of late have been excellent and their players are beginning to play in a way that they weren’t before Christmas, so they’re my pick to win it.
