Stuart Pearce makes prediction for Premier League winners

The new Premier League season kicks off in less than two weeks' time, and Stuart Pearce believes he knows who's going to win it.

Liverpool are the defending champions after a stellar maiden campaign for manager Arne Slot, who led the Reds to a 10-point victory.

Pearce, who spent several years in the Premier League and its predecessor during his 19-year playing career, thinks Slot's men have to be considered the favourites to claim the title again.

The former England captain points to Liverpool's summer acquisitions as proof that the club are doing what it takes to remain on top.

"If you're asking me which team I think is going to win the league, it'd probably be Liverpool," Pearce said. "I think their recruitment's been really good."

Pearce singled out a specific acquisition made by the Reds as one that will make an impact, and also named a current Liverpool player as someone to build around.

"I think they're the team to beat this year," he said. "So, and I always like their style of play, to be honest with you, forefright, good energy.

"Ryan Gravenberch was probably the best midfield player in the league last year, in my opinion. [Florian] Wirtz coming in as well, a couple of new faces within their ranks."
