Team News

Urawa Reds have been eliminated from the Club World Cup following a 3-1 defeat to CA River Plate and a narrow 2-1 loss to FC Internazionale Milano. But no doubt the Japanese side have impressed with both their football and boisterous fan support. Urawa led for most of the way against Inter, only to concede a pair of late goals to seal their elimination. Still, they will be keen to find a victory in their finale and return home on a positive note.

Monterrey arrive into the contest after having played to draws in their opening matches, a 1-1 affair with Inter, followed by a scoreless stalemate against River Plate. Monterrey can advance as group winners if they defeat Urawa Reds by a margin of two or more goals or by a one-goal margin greater than 2-1 (i.e. 3-2, 4-3 etc), and River Plate and Inter draw 0-0. Or, if they defeat Urawa 2-1, River Plate and Inter draw 0-0, and Monterrey finish above Inter on fair play ranking, or, if that is equal, win the drawing of lots. They can also qualify as runners up if they defeat Urawa Reds, and there is a winner of the match between Inter and River Plate. A runner-up finish is also possible in various other ways.
