West Ham thought they had snatched a draw from visiting Arsenal in the dying moments of their crucial Premier League encounter on Sunday, but a lengthy video review determined that a foul had occurred in the build-up to Callum Wilson's goal, leading to a 1-0 Gunners victory.

The Hammers are embroiled in a heated relegation battle with Tottenham, and any points gained and lost at this juncture of the season could prove to be the difference between staying up or dropping to the EFL Championship.

Given the way Sunday's match ended, West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen described the result as "a real blow" and questioned the validity of the decision to overturn the late equalizer.

"We thought we'd done so well to get back in it and had it taken away from us," Bowen told the BBC.

"When you look at the screen for five minutes you'll find something - a lot of grappling and a lot of holding. I'm sure if you look long enough you'll find something.

"Do I think it's the right decision? No."

Bowen added that, according to him, similar infractions have happened throughout the season and have not been called.

"Where's the consistency? As a fan you don't want to celebrate a goal and then wait eight minutes and it's taken off you," he said.

"Corners are physical. The Premier League is physical. That's why everyone loves it. You have to expect contact at corners. If you give that you have to give all the holding calls in the world and that's not the way people want the game to go down.

"I don't want to sound bitter but last week we had one with Tomas Soucek held at Brentford and we didn't get a penalty. But then you can't give one like that today."

Whether you agree with the decision to disallow Wilson's goal or not, the fact remains that Sunday's loss deals a massive blow to West Ham in their relegation fight. The Hammers remain a point below Tottenham with just two matches left to play, while Spurs still have three games left in their campaign.

Bowen acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, but wasn't ready to throw in the towel just yet.

"It's going to be tough," he said. "We never say never at this club.

"We have two games left. We did a lot of good things today. We have to win."
