Mohamed Salah hasn't appeared in a Liverpool match since the Reds' 2-0 victory over Brighton on Dec. 13, when the club icon delivered an assist in his farewell performance before leaving to represent his country at the Africa Cup of Nations.

AFCON is coming to a close this weekend, with Egypt set to play in the third-place match after falling 1-0 to Senegal in the semi-finals.

That should clear the way for Salah's return to Anfield, but exactly when can fans expect to see the 33-year-old donning Liverpool's famous red kit again? Arne Slot says it will be imminent.

“Next week," the Liverpool manager said in a press conference on Friday when asked about Salah's potential return date. “We are in talks with him, what is expected of him over there, what is expected over here, but first of all he needs to have a game on Saturday and next week he will be back with us.”

Slot reiterated that Salah's focus at the moment is performing for his country, after which he will turn his attention to club duties.

“First of all, he needs to play another big game for Egypt on Saturday and then he comes back to us and I’m happy that he comes back," Slot said.

“Mo has been so important for this club, for me, so I am happy he is back. Even if I had 15 attackers, I would have still been happy that he comes back.

“That’s not our current situation, so happy to have him back after an important game he has to play.”

With Liverpool scheduled to face Olympique Marseille on Wednesday for a Matchday 7 encounter in the Champions League, Slot has left the door open for Salah to play in that crucial match.

“That’s something we are talking about together now,” he said.

Should Salah miss the Champions League fixture, Liverpool's next scheduled match is Jan. 24 at Bournemouth in the Premier League.
