The Capitals continued their busy offseason late into the night.
The team announced late Tuesday night that they had agreed to an eight-year, $50.8 million deal with Justin Sourdif that averages out to $6.35 million annually. The contract will begin next season.
Sourdif was the second player that Washington signed to a lucrative contract on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, they had signed forward Ryan Leonard to an eight-year deal worth $84 million. Now, the Capitals have a dozen players who locked into multiyear deals.
The 24-year-old had been set to be a restricted free agent after the 2026-27 season. In his first full NHL season, Sourdif didn't disappoint with 35 points (15 goals and 20 assists) in 78 games. Sourdif was one of 11 players who scored more than 10 goals for Washington, which ended up just four points of the second wild card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
