WWE Crown Jewel results: Roman Reigns retains title over Brock Lesnar in controversial fashion

The hype around Thursday's WWE Crown Jewel at Mohammed Abdu Arena on the Boulevard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was focused on the Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.

WWE's two biggest attractions delivered an entertaining and physical style match. But in WWE fashion, they couldn't have a conclusive finish as Reigns needed the help of cousins The Usos and a belt shot to Lesnar's head to retain the belt and cap off a really good show.

Reigns and Lesnar brought the goods. They threw everything at each other, including the kitchen sink. They kicked out of each other's finishing moves. Lesnar hit one more F5 but it knocked into the referee.

With referee Charles Robinson out for the count, Reigns delivered a spear. With Reigns and Lesnar lying on the mat, former advocate of Lesnar and current Special Counsel to Reigns, Paul Heyman, didn't know who to help. He threw the belt into the ring and landed in between them. A tug of war ensued. Lesnar got the belt and Reigns' cousins and members of The Bloodline, The Usos, hit a double superkick and Reigns hit him with the championship for the pin. Obviously, the story will continue, but it was a poor way to end the event.

Here is what happened at WWE Crown Jewel.

Edge wins in a stellar match

Edge def. Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell.

Rollins looked to have the match locked up after he wrapped a chain around his boot and delivered a series of superkicks. He went for the Curb Stomp but Edge gave him a low blow with a chair. Then it was all Edge.

He gave Rollins a couple of superkicks of his own and put a crossface on with a hammer between Rollins' mouth. Rollins was on the verge of tapping out and Edge let go of the move. Edge grabbed a chair and hit his own Curb Stomp that saw Rollins' bounce off the chair. Edge covered him for the pin and to win the series.

The last 15 minutes was fantastic. Not the biggest fan of the finish. What was the point of Edge winning?

Rollins should have won and this is a glaring point of why WWE is where they are at and on the downturn.

Edge and Rollins turning it on

A superkick and a Pedigree by Rollins and Edge kicks out at two. Rollins goes for a Curb Stomp but Edge reverses into a Buckle Bomb and Rollins bounces into the ropes and Edge delivers his patented spear. Rollins, somehow, kicks out at a long two count. The last five minutes have been very good.

What a spot

Rollins went up to the top turnbuckle for a Phoenix Splash and Edge pushed him off into the cell and Rollins went through the table. Fantastic spot!

Tame Hell in a Cell thus far

Nothing out of the ordinary has happened so far. The cage hasn't even been used. What's the point of the match if the cage isn't a factor? That's the whole intention of the structure.

Hell in a Cell begins the show

The main card of WWE Crown Jewel begins with Edge meeting Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell. They have met twice with Edge winning at SummerSlam and Rollins evening things up on the Sept. 10 edition of SmackDown.

Interesting to see which way this goes but I have to go with Rollins.

Welcome

Welcome to DAZN News' live coverage of WWE Crown Jewel, headlined by Roman Reigns defending the Universal title against Brock Lesnar. It's a match the wrestling world is waiting for so sit back, relax, and enjoy our updates.

During the pre-show match, the SmackDown Tag Team champions, The Usos beat The Hurt Business (Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander). Nothing to the match.

Is that a sign of things to come as their cousin and head of The Bloodline, Reigns, headlines the event?
