Arsenal and Manchester United battle to stalemate as Martin Odegaard debuts

Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw by Manchester United in a watchable battle at the Emirates Stadium that also featured the Gunners debut of new signing Martin Odegaard.

The highly-rated young Norwegian arrived on loan from Real Madrid earlier in the week, but after just one full training session with his new team-mates was given just 10 minutes of total game time from the substitutes' bench by his new manager Mikel Arteta.

Alexandre Lacazette hit the bar with a free-kick for the hosts, while Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani had chances to win it for the Red Devils late on.

The goalless result means United are now unbeaten in 18 games away from home, while the Londoners continue their improved form since Christmas after a disastrous start to the 2020-21 campaign.ย

However both Arteta and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will feel that their team could have left with all three points.

Re-live the game's major happenings below.

90' Full-time

It finishes goalless between Arsenal and Manchester United.

90' Into stoppage time

There'll be an additional three minutes at the Emirates as this one heads towards a stalemate.

88' United almost snatch it!

Wan-Bissaka's cross meets the bicycle kick attempt of Cavani, and it's inches wide of being a late winner!

83' Here comes Odegaard

The new loan signing will make his Arsenal debut in a seven-minute cameo. Smith-Rowe is the man to make way.

79' Close for United

Arsenal have been asking more questions than their guests over the last 15 minutes but on the breakaway, Rashford draws gasps when his shot hits the side netting. Looked to have gone in for just a moment.

65' Arsenal hit the bar!

Lacazette's free-kick from 20 yards comes close to breaking the deadlock, but it remains 0-0.

50' Willian comes close

The ball falls to the sub after an overhit cross from the right, but his shot is blocked. He will have to wait a little longer for his first Arsenal goal.

46' Back underway

Willian is on for Martinelli at the interval, and we're underway in the second half.

45' Half-time

After 45 minutes of decent but deadlocked action, Arsenal and Manchester United head into the dressing rooms at 0-0.

43' United should be ahead

Great sustained attack from the visitors but when the ball comes to an unmarked Rashford, he opts to dribble in search of a better opening and the play fizzles out.

37' Forced substitution

McTominay is hurt and will have to come off early. Anthony Martial replaces him for United.

30' Arsenal come close

Pepe fires inches wide of the far post after great work by Smith-Rowe to create the attack.

20' Chance for United

The first corner of the game is poorly cleared by Arsenal, and Fred has his shot from the loose ball tipped over by Leno.

16' Chance for Arsenal

It's 3-on-3 as the hosts counter, but Lacazette opts to strike from outside the box with the chance to play wide into pockets of space. The shot is held by De Gea.

12' Yellow card

Things get a bit testy as Cedric is booked for leading with his elbow in an aerial challenge with Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese playmaker isn't pleased with the contact, at all. Still goalless early on here.

1' Kick-off

And we are underway at the Emirates!

Odegaard on the bench

Arsenal's new signing will only make a cameo if anything today, with Mikel Arteta admitting pre-match that after just one and a half sessions with his new team-mates, he's not ready to start just yet.
