Ryan Garcia 'doesn't have the talent to beat me', claims Javier Fortuna

Ryan Garcia is one of boxing's biggest stars and attractions. But there's one thing his opponent on July 16 from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Javier Fortuna, has that Garcia doesn't have yet.

And that thing is a world title as Fortuna is a former interim featherweight and super featherweight champion. Heading into their clash live on DAZN, Fortuna (37-3-1, 26 KOs) is dismissive of Garcia's (22-0, 18 KOs) talent and what he brings to the table.

“Ryan is not as big as what everyone makes him out to be," Fortuna recently told a group of reporters. "He doesn’t have the capacity and doesn’t have the talent to beat me. I hope he is ready. Ryan’s speed doesn't faze me. I know how to take that away from him. I have the experience to do it. You’ll see during fight night. You’ll see my power. I am looking forward to beating him at his house.”

Garcia and Fortuna were supposed to fight last July, but the former pulled out due to mental health issues. Fortuna still competed and lost a decision to Jo Jo Diaz. Garcia returned from a 15-month layoff to drop and beat Emmanuel Tagoe in April. While Fortuna was impressed with Garcia's showing against Tagoe, he isn't convinced of the reasoning Garcia had when he pulled out of their bout.

“Ryan looked good against Tagoe,” Fortuna said. “Ryan doesn’t have any mental health issues. The same week he announced he had mental health issues, he was messing around with his girlfriend.”
