Oscar De La Hoya returns to the ring after almost 11 years on September 11th.

Oscar De La Hoya is banking on turning back the clock when he faces Vitor Belfort in an exhibition fight on September 11th.

The former Olympic gold medallist was inspired to return to the ring following Mike Tyson’s clash with Roy Jones Jr last year, and the Belfort meeting will be the first time De La Hoya has fought since 2008.

The six-weight world champion is treating his comeback seriously and has identified future fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr and Canelo Alvarez as his main targets. For now, De La Hoya is focused on Belfort and he’s even considering having a familiar face in his corner once again.

“I’m actually thinking of calling Floyd Mayweather Sr. to train me,” said De La Hoya when speaking to BoxingScene.  “He was the one to bring the best out of me. I’ll come in at 170, fast, strong. I’ve got my chin, so if he hits me, okay, I’m coming forward. You better be in shape.

“Look, I’ve pretty much accomplished everything one has to accomplish in boxing. I want to make the biggest comeback in the history of the sport.”
