Luton Town will play in the Premier League for the first time next season following a tense penalty shootout win over Coventry City at Wembley Stadium.

Their incredible rise from non-league to the top flight is now complete and Rob Edwards’ side will now turn their attentions to the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool following their penalty glory after a 1-1 draw.

Luton started the game the better side, but their chances were given an early knock when Tom Lockyer had to be withdrawn after collapsing on the pitch.

Luton didn’t let that deter them though as they raced forward shortly afterwards and took the lead through Jordan Clark who smashed home from close range following good work from Elijah Adebayo.

Coventry began the second half with purpose as they chased an equalizer, and their industry was rewarded when Gustavo Hamer finished well to send the Coventry fans wild.

Luton thought they had won the game in extra time, but Joe Taylor’s goal was ruled out by VAR after it hit his hand on his way through to goal.

With penalties required to sperate the teams, both teams were perfect as they dispatched the first ten penalties between them.

In sudden death, Dan Potts put Luton in front, and it was left to Brooke Norton-Cuffey to tie the teams. His penalty went high and wide and it allowed Luton to celebrate their first ever promotion to the Premier League.
