AFC South teams struggled last season, with their combined efforts resulting in the fewest wins of any division.
The Texans were the only playoff representative , as the Colts, Jaguars and Titans struggled to keep pace.
The Titans were awarded the top overall pick in April’s draft.
DAZN News Gavin Babbitt breaks down how the 2025 AFC South could work out.
The Texans were limited offensively last year, but played exceptional defense. Houston played through injuries to several skill players and finished 10-7. They beat the Chargers in the Wild Card round and lost to the Chiefs in the divisional round.
C.J. Stroud has a retooled offense in 2025; the major update being three new linemen. Veteran Cam Robinson signed a one-year deal at left tackle, and Houston used its second-round pick on Aireontae Ersery , a 330-pounder light on his feet. Laken Tomlinson is the newcomer at guard. Protecting Stroud is this offense’s priority, and doing so makes them a major threat.

Nico Collins leads a receiving corps that added Christian Kirk via trade and Jayden Higgins in the first round. Collins will be the target leader and find the end zone frequently. Kirk and Higgins complement him well. Higgins will stretch the field opposite Collins, and Kirk will play the slot.
Joe Mixon will miss the first four games of 2025, at least. Nick Chubb signed in free agency and will start Week 1. Chubb and Mixon are both physical backs who will wear on defenses this season. If both stay healthy after Mixon’s return, Houston will have an improved running game.
Defensively, Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter return on the edges. Both are excellent at creating pressure on opposition quarterbacks. This front seven’s ability to stop the run is its crux. They will need improvement from their defensive tackles and health from the linebacking corps, led by Azeez Al-Shaair.
The Texans’ secondary looks solid with an extension for Derek Stingley and the addition of C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Houston has depth at safety, and Kamari Lassiter will mirror Stingley after an excellent rookie season.
This Houston roster has no excuse but to win the division. It has potential for efficiency and explosiveness offensively, with a defense that will get them the ball back.
The Colts see-sawed their way through last season. Playing with multiple quarterbacks, this receiving group struggled with separation and yards after the catch. Indy finished in the bottom 10 in most key defensive categories.
Daniel Jones will be the starting quarterback over Anthony Richardson . Richardson has struggled to protect the football to start his NFL career. Jones failed to meet expectations with the Giants, but will have a chance to prove himself in 2025. He must boost his passer rating with less interceptions and more touchdowns.
The Colts’ receivers are impressive. Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs provide a blend of size and speed. The Colts selected tight end Tyler Warren in the first round. Warren is a combo player who makes plays as a receiver and blocks well .
Jonathan Taylor is primed for a big year at running back. His offensive line returns after an excellent season. Taylor will create explosive plays and touchdowns near the goal line.
The Colts invested in their secondary this offseason, bringing in Camryn Bynum and Charvarius Ward. The back end will be improved, but they need progression from the defensive line. DeForest Buckner, Kwity Paye, and Laiatu Latu are its leaders.
Indianapolis struggled to create pressure and allowed substantial passing yardage in 2024. It may incorporate the blitz more this year to help.
A Colts playoff appearance requires Daniel Jones’ best season. This team will push the Texans if he can perform well. The defense is reorganized to stop the pass, and the offense has ample protection and playmaking ability.

The Jaguars had a long 2024. With a porous defense and ineffective running game, they didn’t recover from a 0-4 start and went 1-8 on the road. The team fired its head coach and general manager after the season.
New Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has an offensive background, which bodes well for Trevor Lawrence in his fifth season.

Jacksonville’s offensive line play will be revamped. Patrick Mekari and Robert Hainsey signed in free agency to play with three returning starters. This grants Lawrence more time to throw, which was an issue last season.
Brian Thomas and two-way unicorn Travis Hunter are the top exterior receivers. With Hunter taking snaps on defense, Thomas will undoubtedly lead the team in targets and is ready for a tremendous season.
Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby return at running back; their consistency is crucial to this offense’s success. The two had limited space to run last season, but with new bodies in front of them, they have an opportunity to rebound in a more creative scheme.
An improved Jaguars defense makes the biggest difference for this team. They were vulnerable through the air last season, hence the trade up to select Hunter. Jacksonville signed veterans Jourdan Lewis and Eric Murray to play on the back end with Jarrian Jones and Andrew Wingard.
A remade secondary pairs well with Jacksonville’s front seven. Travon Walker, Josh Hines-Allen, Devin Lloyd and Foyesade Oluokun all made plays last season despite the headwinds.
There is reason for caution and optimism with the Jaguars this season. If a new, effective offensive approach meets a more reliable defense, they are capable of a playoff push.
The Titans were considered the NFL’s worst team last year, considering their schedule and record. Tennessee was terribly inefficient at quarterback and had problems up front defensively. They were awarded the top overall pick in the 2025 draft.
Top-pick Cam Ward takes over a Titans offense with a new receiving group. Tyler Lockett signed in free agency, and rookies Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor were selected in the fourth round. Calvin Ridley is the top receiver and will work the exterior with Lockett. Both are vertical threats, and Lockett is excellent on ad-lib routes to match Ward’s scrambling style.

The Titans’ offensive line has work to do. Tackle Dan Moore and guard Kevin Zeitler came over in free agency. They join three returning starters who had issues reducing quarterback pressure and limiting yards before contact. Moore is prone to allow sacks, but he and Zeitler will help the run game.
Tony Pollard rushed for 1,000 yards last year for the third straight season, under poor circumstances. His backfield mate Tyjae Spears is set to miss time with a sprained ankle. Pollard is effective and will see significant usage.
The Titans’ pass-rush needs improvement from T’Vondre Sweat and Sebastian Joseph-Day. Dre’Mont Jones was brought in to assist, but has struggled recently. Cody Barton is a signee at linebacker who will be essential to limiting damage on the ground. Second-round pick Oluwafemi Oladejo must play well quickly.
The Titans” secondary held its own last season. It added Xavier Woods to play with Amani Hooker, and lead cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is healthy. The unit will have to pick up the slack again for this defense.
Tennessee needs multiple seasons to get on track. The focus of 2025 will be Cam Ward’s development. This roster needs help.
Teams in the AFC South should improve overall compared to last season.
The Texans are a good long-shot Super Bowl pick. C.J. Stroud must be outstanding for that to happen.
The Jaguars have a chance to recover nicely from 2024.
The Colts have no franchise quarterback, but have a solid roster, and the Titans will need time to discover their new core.
The division will likely produce one playoff team.
