After a sluggish 1-2 start to the 2025 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs delivered a resounding statement in Week 4, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 37–20 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes showcased his elite form, throwing four touchdown passes for the first time since October 2023. This performance not only marked a personal milestone but also signalled a potential resurgence for the Chiefs' offense.

Mahomes completed 25 of 37 passes (67.6%) for 270 yards, with four touchdowns and no interceptions, achieving a passer rating of 124.8. His quick-game execution was particularly impressive, completing 17 of 22 passes for 142 yards and three touchdowns in under 2.5 seconds.

This efficiency was a stark contrast to the team's earlier struggles, where they had averaged just 19.3 points per game in their first three contests.

A significant factor in the Chiefs' offensive revival was the return of wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who had been sidelined since Week 1 due to a dislocated shoulder.

Despite the injury, Worthy led the team in both receiving and rushing yards against the Ravens, with 83 receiving yards and 38 rushing yards. His dynamic presence on the field added a new dimension to the Chiefs’ offense, stretching the Ravens’ defense and creating opportunities for other playmakers.

The Chiefs' victory was also a testament to their depth and adaptability. Running backs Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt contributed significantly, combining for 118 rushing yards, which helped balance the offense and keep the Ravens’ defense on its heels. Additionally, wide receiver Tyquan Thornton continued to emerge as a deep threat, scoring his third touchdown of the season.

While the Ravens’ defense was hampered by injuries, including the loss of key players like linebacker Roquan Smith and cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins, the Chiefs capitalised on these vulnerabilities. Quarterback Lamar Jackson also exited the game due to a hamstring injury, further disrupting the Ravens' offensive rhythm.

The Chiefs have reached at least the AFC Championship game in all seven seasons since Mahomes became the starting signal caller at Arrowhead, a period which of course includes five Super Bowl appearances and three titles.

There were suggestions that their patchy start to the 2025 season was the beginning of the end of their era of dominance. But with this commanding win, the Chiefs improved to a 2-2 record and signposted a potential turnaround after their early challenges.

If Mahomes and Worthy can maintain their high level of play, and with top receiver Rashee Rice returning from suspension in Week 7, the Chiefs may very well be poised to return to Super Bowl-worthy form in the coming weeks.
