Two teams in the top 10 of our latest power rankings collide in Week 14, when the Philadelphia Eagles (8-4) visit SoFi Stadium to face the Los Angeles Chargers (8-4) in what promises to be a thrilling installment of Monday Night Football.

For the Eagles, this is an opportunity to dig their heels in, halt their two-game skid, and remind the league that, as defending Super Bowl champions, they remain a force to be reckoned with.

For the Chargers, this is the perfect platform to show they can hang with other playoff contenders, improve their chances of securing a Wild Card playoff spot, and keep the pressure on the Broncos atop the AFC West.

There was no shortage of drama when these two teams last met.

This time around is shaping up to be just as entertaining, especially if you're watching the Monsters Inc. alternate telecast on Game Pass. More on that below.

Here's your full matchup breakdown of this prime-time contest.

Eagles: Time to steady the ship

After watching the Cowboys lose to the Lions on TNF, Philly will be confident the NFC East is theirs for the taking.

But their divisional record disguises real concerns. The Eagles have not fired on all cylinders this season - a point that seemed somewhat forgivable in mid-November before they dropped two games to the Cowboys and Bears.

Their ground game, so often the heartbeat of their 2024 Super Bowl-winning campaign, has struggled to find its rhythm. 2024 Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley has topped 100 yards only once and has averaged just 3.7 yards per carry.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been steady rather than prolific. He has taken on a larger role through the air, but the passing game has yet to hit the level everyone expected.

Disgruntled wide receiver A.J. Brown has shown signs of life in recent weeks, and his partner DeVonta Smith remains dangerous, but tight end Dallas Goedert has faded after scoring for fun earlier in the season.

Defensively, after looking rejuvenated in 2024, Philadelphia has also endured its struggles. It's a unit that must tighten up against the run and limit big plays through the air.

Achieving those objectives may prove more difficult without standout defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who will miss this contest after undergoing shoulder surgery.

It's not all bad news. Despite their recent woes, the Eagles boast one of the most talented rosters in football and are a near lock to make the playoffs.

While there's definitely still a feeling of 'when', not 'if', Philadelphia rediscover their spark, the runway is getting shorter, patience is wearing thin, and January football - as we all know - is unforgiving.

Chargers: Herbert's health in limbo

Everything the Chargers do flows through quarterback Justin Herbert, who has overcome injuries to his offensive line to perform heroics this year.

View post on X

The 27-year-old had surgery to repair a broken bone in his non-throwing hand after Week 13, but is trending toward playing after logging a limited practice on Thursday.

Herbert spreads the ball out well, with wideouts Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen, Quentin Johnson, and tight end Oronde Gadsden all contributing.

The ground game has been feast or famine, with Kimani Vidal filling in for injured first-round rookie Omarion Hampton. Hampton is trending toward returning here after missing seven games.

The defense has been even more inconsistent. At their best, they create pressure in waves and force offenses off script. At their worst, they allow long drives and struggle to keep opponents out of the end zone. Which version turns up may decide the outcome.

Safety Derwin James remains a difference-maker, but his supporting cast is somewhat lacking, with third-year linebacker Daiyan Henley struggling to replicate the same form he showed during his 2024 breakout campaign.

At least James can rely on the effectiveness of edge rusher Tuli Tulipulotu, who has justified his expanded role by recording a career-high 10 sacks.

Keys to the game

  • Philly’s pass rush vs Chargers' makeshift offensive line: With no Rashawn Slater or Joe Alt in the lineup, the Eagles' pass rushers could create constant disruption.
  • Herbert and Hampton's health: The Chargers' offense would be a very different, not-so-dangerous beast without Herbert pulling the strings.
  • Chargers run D vs Eagles run-first O: The Bolts have allowed 4.6 yards per carry. Barkley may be able to capitalise.
  • Explosive plays: Both teams tend to give up big plays. Whichever side can limit big gains through the air could walk away with a much-needed win.

Playoff implications

Victory keeps the Eagles in the conversation for the No.1 seed in the NFC and the first-round playoff bye that comes with it.

The outcome is even more critical for the Chargers. A win here improves their playoff odds from 51% to 76%. A loss leaves their odds at 50/50.

Kickoff date, time, and location

  • Date: Monday, December 8, 2025
  • Kickoff: 8:15 pm ET / 5:15 pm PT / 1:15 am GMT (Tue)
  • Venue: SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles - the home of the Chargers

Prediction

If the Eagles rediscover their offensive rhythm, show more willingness against the run, and avoid coverage busts, they could emerge from MNF with a statement road win.

But should the Chargers control the tempo and somehow keep Herbert clean, the odds swing in their favour. The big question, beyond the patchwork offensive line, is whether Herbert's health will limit him somewhat.
