McCaffrey and Bosa injuries headline latest NFL camp news

Unexpected injuries, contract extension talk, and a team chasing a return to dynasty status are dominating the headline stories from today's NFL training camps.

And with the preseason set to kick off in just a few days, some of these storylines could have a bearing on how the season unfolds.

Bosa and McCaffrey absent

It's been five consecutive missed practices for Nick Bosa and two for Christian McCaffrey, although Kyle Shanahan doesn't seem too concerned.

Shanahan revealed on Tuesday that Bosa is dealing with tendinitis and some soreness, a normal process for a player recovering from an ACL injury.

McCaffrey experienced some "tightness" and was given the day off

"My concern would be him toughing through tightness, like a lot of people do," Shanahan told reporters.

Both players are expected to make the trip to Melbourne for their Week 1 game against the Rams.

Dolphins' Willis playing Saturday; Sieler sidelined

Jeff Hafley confirmed that he plans to play Malik Willis in the preseason opener against the Commanders on Friday.

But one player who won't be making an appearance is star DT Zach Sieler, who was sidelined on Monday with an undisclosed injury.

Buccaneers and Vea continue extension talks

There has been no progress with Vita Vea's contract extension, but the Bucs are determined not to let him go.

GM Jason Licht said last Thursday there were "no plans of trading him," but Vea's agent told the Tampa Bay Times he "doesn't see it ending in anything but a trade."

Per Mike Garafolo, the lines of communication remain open, at least.

Chiefs camp standouts

Third-year safety Jaden Hicks has been making waves in training camp, while rookie cornerback D'Arco Perkins-McAllister was also one of Tuesday's standout players.

The Chiefs will need everyone to step up if they are to reclaim the AFC West title and make a deep playoff push.

It helps, of course, that Patrick Mahomes is trending toward being healthy for Week 1, as he continues to make excellent progress in his recovery from an ACL tear.
