Patriots legend Belichick parted company with the team at the end of last season.

As the New England Patriots gear up for the NFL Draft and preseason programme, the organisation is getting used to a new way of working.

For the first time since 1999, someone other than Bill Belichick is running the team, after Jerod Mayo replaced the legendary head coach this offseason.

Belichick’s 24-year stint at the Patriots which saw six Super Bowl wins ended in January, when the two parties agreed to part ways, with former Pats linebacker Mayo promoted from within at Foxborough.

As Mayo gets his feet under the table, he has the backing of one of his key defensive players, as linebacker Matthew Judon has explained why he expects his new boss to be a success.

"You know, I think our defense had a lot of good moments throughout the season,” Judon told WEEI. “And I think Mayo is going to be an amazing head coach for us, help us out, and try to right the ship.”

Improving on last year’s 4-13 record will be Mayo’s first priority and with the number three overall draft pick, the team has a chance to make impactful changes.

But while Judon is looking forward to changes, he approved of the team’s decision to re-sign Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings this offseason.

“It’s new. Everything’s new. But I’m glad we’ve got a lot of old faces coming,” Judon added.

Judon himself will be looking to play a bigger part in 2024 after injuries restricted him to just four games last season.
