The Eagles won 13 games on their way to the NFC East crown last season , while the Commanders were one of the league’s best surprises, with superb play from Jayden Daniels .
The two teams met in the NFC championship game, where the Eagles prevailed.
The Cowboys and the Giants both had issues at quarterback and were forced to look ahead to 2025.
DAZN News Gavin Babbitt breaks down how the 2025 NFC East could work out.
The Eagles finished atop the NFL last year, winning Super Bowl LIX. After a 2-2 start, Philadelphia won 10 straight games and lost only once in the second half of the season. Saquon Barkley eclipsed 2,000 rushing yards, accompanied by the league’s best defense.
The Eagles must play through roster turnover to defend their Super Bowl title. Philadelphia saw key defensive players leave this offseason.
In the front seven, Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, and Oren Burks departed, while Brandon Graham retired. In the secondary, C.J. Garnder-Johnson, Darius Slay, and Isaiah Rodgers are gone.
The Eagles need a dominant defense to complement their offense. Despite the losses, they have the personnel to replicate their success from last season.
The pass rush will lean on younger players for production: Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, and Moro Ojomo in particular. With the help of Zack Baun and first-round pick Jihaad Campbell at linebacker, Philly will be imposing up front. They will do without Nakobe Dean until at least October.
Sydney Brown and Adoree’ Jackson step in to replace Gardner-Johnson and Slay on the back end. They join Cooper DeJean, Reed Blankenship, and Quinyon Mitchell. This assembly has a shot to repeat as a top-three secondary in passing yardage allowed.

The entire Eagles offense returns, with the only hiccup being Landon Dickerson’s knee injury in training camp. He will be back early in the season on a stacked line, including Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson at tackle.
The backfield and exterior will have no issues making explosive plays. If healthy, Saquon Barkley will undoubtedly produce, while Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith enter their third season together. Defenses are threatened from all angles on every snap against this group.
Philadelphia will need younger players to meet its standards in 2025. If they do, the Eagles are a legitimate threat to repeat as Super Bowl champions. It would be their third in the last decade.
The Commanders proved to be dangerous in 2024. They finished the season with five straight wins, beat the Buccaneers in the Wild Card round and the 15-2 Lions in the NFC Championship game. Jayden Daniels was the NFL offensive Rookie of the Year .
The Commanders led the league in running efficiency last year. Jayden Daniels will have an expanded role in the running game, along with Austin Ekeler, as Brian Robinson was traded to the 49ers.
The running game will be strong. Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil was acquired in a trade from the Texans to play with four returning starters. The team selected Josh Conerly of Oregon in the first round for depth .
This pass-catching group added Deebo Samuel in a trade with the 49ers this offseason. Samuel is a good fit in Washington with his ability on handoffs. There will be plenty of misdirection on the ground from this offense.
Terry McLaurin has his contract extension coming off his best NFL season . His chemistry with Daniels is undeniable, and he will be able to stretch the field with the addition of Samuel.
For Washington to become a Super Bowl Contender, its run defense must improve. This was a bottom-three defensive front in rushing yardage allowed. The addition of Von Miller and Javon Kinlaw will help, but Dorance Armstrong and Daron Payne need to revamp their tackling quickly. Bobby Wagner returns as the anchor at middle linebacker.
The Commanders’ secondary limited yards through the air last season. There are a few changes, including Will Harris at safety and rookie Trey Amos at cornerback. Harris is coming off an exceptional season, and Amos was the team’s second-round pick. This group has plus talent with Marshon Lattimore opposite Amos.
Washington looks to have improved its roster on both sides. Elite execution and wins against the Eagles will give them a shot at a top playoff seed in the NFC.
The 2024 Cowboys shrunk the moment Dak Prescott was injured in Week 9. They booked two good wins in the second half against the Commanders and Buccaneers, but went only 2-7 at home. It was their first sub-.500 season since 2020.
Brian Schottenheimer was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach in Dallas this offseason. Schottenheimer is familiar with this roster and does not hesitate to throw.
Dak Prescott is back, along with CeeDee Lamb and new weapon George Pickens. Lamb runs routes at different depths better than anyone. This complements Pickens as a deep threat. Prescott should be dealing with his arm, as this offense is geared to throw.
The offensive line looks similar, other than first-round pick Tyler Booker at guard. Tyler Guyton needs to improve, as Dallas' running game struggled last season. Javonte Williams will be the starting running back and needs to acclimate quickly if he is to stand a chance of exceeding 1,000 yards for the first time in his career.

The storyline of this defense is Micah Parsons, who was traded this week to the Green Bay Packers in a bombshell deal that made this unit immediately worse. Chauncey Golston and Osa Odighizuwa showed progress as pass rushers last season.
Dallas added Dante Fowler up front and acquired Jack Sanborn and Kenneth Murray to man the linebacker spot. The new additions will need to improve in coverage to help limit the yards-after-the-catch issue from last year.
The Cowboys’ secondary hopes to have Trevon Diggs completely healthy for the first time since 2022. If that's the case, forced turnovers will rise, a strength of this defense that struggled overall last season.
The Cowboys have talent. They must in the run game on both sides to move up in the division. Their biggest challenge is to block out noise and stay focused.
The Giants were 3-14 last season, tied for the NFL’s worst record. New York had a season point differential of -142, going 0-6 in the division. The team played four different quarterbacks as Daniel Jones was dismissed after Week 10.
There’s reason for optimism at quarterback for the Giants. The team signed Russell Wilson in March and selected Jaxson Dart in the first round. Wilson is the starter and a veteran for Dart to observe. Dart has had a good preseason.

This offense was not good a year ago. The same line returns to protect Wilson, but it must improve for this unit to get better. Getting left tackle Andrew Thomas will be crucial after he missed 11 games in 2024.
Malik Nabers could have another huge year with Wilson’s ability to throw deep. Wan’Dale Robinson joins Nabers on the outside, and Tyrone Tracy will lead the backfield. Tracy must protect the football better. The Giants have depth at running back with Devin Singletary and fourth-round pick Cam Skattebo .
The Giants’ defense held its own with how much it played last year. Sack leaders Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux are joined by third overall pick Abdul Carter. This is a daunting pass rush. With improvement stopping the run, this front seven can open the door for this team.
The Giants secondary welcomes Paulson Adebo at corner and Jevon Holland at safety. They’ll play with Deonte Banks and Tyler Nubin. If Banks can reduce the touchdowns he allows, the four will be tough on the back end.
The Giants will improve defensively. If Russell Wilson and company are consistent, New York will double its previous win total, at a minimum. This is a young and motivated team.
The Eagles and the Commanders will duel for this division.
It is key that Washington wins at least one of the head-to-head matchups with Philadelphia if they are to win the East.
If the Commanders stay healthier, they could force the Eagles into a Wild Card position. Both will be a factor in the playoffs, as in 2024. The Cowboys will need their offense to be elite to keep pace.
The Giants should improve, but they lack the experience and overall talent to keep up.
