The Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl aspirations received a timely boost, with news that quarterback Sam Darnold - who has been managing an oblique injury - is fit and ready to face the Los Angeles Rams in the season-defining NFC Championship game later today .
Speaking to the team's official website , the 28-year-old said: "Feeling really good this whole week. Feel like the process is going right along where it should be. Feel really good for Sunday."
Head coach Mike Macdonald, a leading candidate for Coach of the Year after guiding Seattle to a 14–3 record and the NFC West title, made it clear there was no lingering concerns.
"Everything's going to plan, let's put it that way. He's going to play, and we'll take it day by day." He added that Darnold "did great" in practice.
In other positive news for Seattle, offensive tackle Charles Cross, who has allowed just two sacks across the regular season and playoffs, is trending toward playing after picking up a foot injury in the Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers.
And with the threat posed by Rams' edge rushers Jared Verse and Byron Young, Cross' presence could make all the difference.
"I feel good. Really just leaned on my preparation, getting mental reps this week, understanding the gameplan, just being ready to play fast and execute," Cross said.
"I feel like the week went really well. I was working with the athletic training staff, creating a plan. Being ready for Sunday was the goal, and I feel like we executed it, so the plan is to go out and play."
With Darnold steady and reinforcements returning, the Seahawks appear ready for their biggest test of the season. Will it be enough to overcome Sean McVay, Matthew Stafford and Co.? We'll find out soon enough.
