49ers lock up elite left tackle Trent Williams on two-year, $50m deal

If Brock Purdy was daydreaming about being made Mr. Irrelevant almost exactly four years ago, his train of thought has just been interrupted by some welcome news. Trent Williams is staying in San Francisco.

The 49ers and their star left tackle have agreed on a two-year, $50 million deal, per Williams' agency.

The veteran has enjoyed a stellar career, allowing just 11 sacks in six seasons with the 49ers since joining from the Washington Commanders.

He made his 12th Pro Bowl appearance last season and continues to defy Father Time at age 37.

The deal means the front office enters Thursday's 2026 NFL Draft without the distraction of an unresolved blindside situation.

For Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and the rest of the 49ers' offense, it's the best possible pre-draft present.
