With Regis Prograis clashing with Jose Zepeda for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title Saturday night, DAZN's Akin Reyes weighs in with big fight options that could await the winner.
If Zepeda were to pull off the upset, I think a great fight for him would be against Teofimo Lopez. They’ve said some things about each other in the past. Obviously, Teofimo is fighting Sandor Martin (on Dec. 10). If he gets past Martin, I think Zepeda and Teofimo would be a great matchup.
Two Mexicans who could punch and come to fight. Talk about a bloodbath! That fight doesn’t end by decision. If we want an entertaining fight, Zepeda-Ramirez … I’d pay for that one.
If Devin Haney does go on and defeats (Vasiliy) Lomachenko, there’s not much more he could accomplish in that division. He’d probably move up to 140 pounds. Two young fighters who could talk a lot of trash and they’re going to bring culture to the fight. It’s skill. One is southpaw, one is right. It’s a great matchup for the culture. I like Devin Haney fighting Prograis in his first fight at 140.
Regis has a chip on his shoulder over that fight with Josh Taylor. He always wanted to avenge that loss and I think that it gives him the opportunity to pick up another title in that division and become a unified champion. We all know it’s a great matchup because we’ve seen it before.
I also like Catterall for Regis. I think that would be a good fight.
