DAZN News rounds up the biggest boxing stories on Wednesday, March 11.
Unified heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol is finally ready to return to the ring after recovering from back surgery.
A deal has been reached for Bivol to face his IBF mandatory challenger Michael Eifert, and it looks like the contest could take place on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Rico Verhoeven on May 23.
First reported by Dan Rafael, Bivol and Eifert are set to clash in front of the pyramids of Giza in a unique and historic boxing event from the Ring Magazine.
By the time Bivol steps into the ring, it will be his first fight for 15 months after beating Artur Beterbiev in a rematch for the undisputed light heavyweight title.
Kazakhstan's Janibek Alimkhanuly is no longer the IBF middleweight champion after the sanctioning body stripped him of their belt.
This was due to a doping violation, with IBF Rule 18, which covers drug testing, being cited as justification for the decision.
A call is yet to be made when it comes to the future of the vacant IBF middleweight belt, but it's likely Etinosa Oliha and Shakiel Thompson will contest for the world title. However, there is still a long way to go before it's made official.
In a surprise announcement on Monday, Francis Ngannou confirmed his return to MMA, and on Tuesday, he spoke for the first time since the news was made official.
Ngannou is set to face Philipe Lins in the co-main event of Ronda Rousey's fight with Gina Carano, which is being promoted by Jake Paul's MVP promotions.
As expected during Tuesday's press conference, Paul was ready to throw the cat amongst pigeons and called for a fight against the former UFC heavyweight champion.
In a calm but menacing fashion, Ngannou responded.
"I’m not interested in fighting Jake Paul; I’m interested in beating his a—s"
Could a fight between Ngannou and Paul actually happen? Only time will tell.
