Brandon Figueroa's knockout win over Nick Ball to become the new WBA featherweight champion has caught the eye of a powerful figure within boxing.

Taking on Ball in his home city of Liverpool on Saturday night, Figueroa shocked the M&S Bank Arena, and His Excellency Turki Alalshikh was impressed by the American's performance.

While the celebrations were getting underway on Merseyside, Alalshikh made an offer to Figueroa for his next fight, and it could see him feature on one of this year's biggest fight cards.

Figueroa offered fight on Canelo undercard in September

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Alalshikh congratulated Figueroa and praised his success in winning a world title by travelling to Ball's backyard.

Then came the offer to fight on the undercard for Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's next fight which is scheduled for September 12 in Riyadh.

"A huge congratulations to Brandon Figueroa for showing his character by taking the risk and travelling to the champion's backyard to capture the WBA featherweight champion with a great knockout in the final round," Alalshikh wrote.

"We want to see you defend your title for the first time on September 12 in Riyadh, when we stage Mexico vs. The World - featuring the return of Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in the main event."

Who could Figueroa face on Canelo undercard?

This Mexico vs. The World event is an intriguing one, and Figueroa would be silly to turn down this offer.

When it comes to who the American could face, former Mexican world champion Luis Alberto Lopez is an obvious choice.

There is already tension simmering between the two fighters with Lopez recently calling out Figueroa, and the latter being a world titleholder will heighten these tensions.

Lopez is an entertaining fighter who has power in his hands, and after losing his IBF featherweight title to Angelo Leo two years ago, he has produced two successive wins by stoppage.

If Figueroa does indeed take up Alalshikh's offer to fight on September 12, then Lopez could be a perfect dance partner with a rivalry already set in stone.
