Callum Smith has finally had a date confirmed for a long awaited clash with Cuban light heavyweight David Morrell.
Set for Saturday, April 18, live on DAZN, Smith and Morrell will meet in Liverpool for the former's WBO interim light heavyweight title.
The winner of this contest will then earn themselves a chance to face unified champion Dmitry Bivol who will return to the ring imminently after recovering from back surgery.
Smith's last outing came in February 2025 when he overcame fellow Brit Joshua Buatsi in a Fight of the Year contender, while Morrell fought in July when he beat Imam Khataev by split decision.
This particular contest has been hit by a number of delays, but now a deal has been struck, fans can expect a thrilling battle on Merseyside.
It may have taken a while to get over the line, but Smith's meeting with Morrell will be worth the wait.
In 2025, both men were involved in Fight of the Year contenders.
Smith's battle with Buatsi stole the show in Riyadh on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev's rematch with Dmitry Bivol, while Morrell was involved in a slugfest with WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez.
Morrell would lose to Benavidez by unanimous decision, he gained plenty of plaudits for his performance.
Smith will no doubt look to be on the front foot with all the pent up frustration in trying to land a world title shot, but Morrell will be more than game.
The Cuban has won nine of his 12 bouts by knockout, and despite being just 13 fights into his pro career, Morrell has already proven he can mix it with the best.
