Conor Benn will not pursue a trilogy bout if he defeats Chris Eubank Jr. in their rematch, with Nigel Benn backing him to return to welterweight.
The pair meet for a second time this year on Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the former out to avenge his loss in April's first bout.
Benn, who vaulted up two weight classes to make the clash against his rival, had previously indicated a desire to chase belts at his natural level.
Now, when asked whether his son may reverse course and consider a third bout if he gains revenge, his father has played down any prospect.
"No, no, no," he told talkSPORT. "He's going back down. That's his goal. I think after this fight, there won't be a trilogy. I honestly believe that.
"God willing, after this fight, he'll drop back down to 147, and then he will progress at that level. That's his goal, to be [welterweight champion]."
The senior Benn was a two-weight champion in his own right during a glittering career, with his son keen to follow in his footsteps with a title.
Both Mario Barrios and Lewis Crocker have been namechecked as potential opponents for the star as and when he returns to the division.
Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn's much anticipated rematch is live and exclusive on DAZN PPV on Saturday, November 15. Buy for £24.99 UK / $59.99 US.
