Dave Allen looked to take another significant step in his remarkable comeback, as he battled the menacing Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday from a raucous crowd in Sheffield, England, live on DAZN.
Boxing pundits expected Allen to walk through Makhmudov and face former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in 2026. But the best laid plans don't always come to fruition as Makhmudov dominated from start to finish, winning by unanimous decision (117-109, 116-110, 111-105).
Allen stalked Makhmudov for the bulk of the contest and was able to back him into the ropes. However, Allen rarely seized the opportunity and allowed Makhmudov to pepper jabs and stay relentless with left and right hands. Makhmudov had one point taken away in the ninth and twelfth rounds for excessive holding , but it proved to be for naught.
Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs made it clear who he wants next, and that's former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
"Anthony Joshua, let me know when brother", Makhmudov told Jamie Ward in his post-fight interview.
