WBC title defence against Anthony Yarde is about more than a belt for David Benavidez
Saturday's fight against Anthony Yarde will be David Benavidez's first defence of the WBC light heavyweight title since he was elevated to full champion in April, and the 28-year-old is giving the opportunity the respect it deserves.
Benavidez, Yarde and all the other fighters on this weekend's stacked Ring IV: Night of Champions card kicked fight week off Tuesday with the Grand Arrivals in Riyadh, allowing fans and media their first look at the combatants in the host city.
With Bendavidez vs. Yarde serving as the headline fight, "The Mexican Monster" is determined to not only hold on to his title, but also to use the main event bout as a springboard for his legacy as a boxer.

Ring Magazine"I have a lot to prove, not only in this fight Saturday but going forward for the rest of my career," Benavidez said on the DAZN broadcast of the Grand Arrivals.
"I really want to make a statement that I'm the best in the world and I want to be the greatest of my generation by the time my time is done, and it starts with Anthony Yarde."
Yarde has challenged for the WBC belt before, when he lost to Artur Beterbiev in early 2023, but the Briton has rung off four straight victories since then and will prove a massive test for the current champion.
Benavidez is under no illusion that Saturday's fight will be an easy one, but he is determined to come away with a win regardless of how it happens.
"I know Anthony Yarde has come in, he's focused, he's prepared, but I'm ready to make it a war in there," he said. "I'm not leaving there without a victory."
