Devin Haney, Brian Norman Jr.'s fathers need to let their sons do the fighting

Ring IV Benavidez vs Yarde on DAZN PPV - Saturday

On Thursday, the participants and promoters were on the dais for the final press conference of The Ring IV: Night of the Champions on Saturday from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, live and exclusive on DAZN PPV.

For the most part, things were respectful, and the fighters were respectful towards one another. But some things stood out.

DAZN News takes a look at a couple of notable things that occurred at The Ring IV press conference.

Dads Unnecessarily Make Themselves The Center Of Attention

Who doesn't love their fathers? Growing up, they are our big protectors, But as evidenced by Thursday's press conference, dads whose sons are in the limelight and at the top of their sporting profession don't know how to step back and let their cubs take center stage and take care of business.

Before Devin Haney and WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. were introduced, their fathers, Bill Haney and Brian Norman Sr., the trainers for their sons, started their antics.

Instead of just letting it go, Bill and Brian Sr., continued to act like children when the presser began as host Todd Grisham asked Norman Sr. about the rivalry with Bill Haney.

Bill talked and was complimentary of Brian Jr., but then proceeded to call Brian Sr., a "clown and a dummy" and went off the rails after that.

For two-and-a-half minutes, two grown men screamed at each other, Haney challenging Norman to a wrestling match, and then Haney stood up and screamed along with Norman Sr. about nothing of substance. That was about 150 seconds that we will never get back.

Thankfully, Grisham put an end to it when he said that no one wants to hear them talk, and we want to hear from the fighters.

Bill Haney and Brian Norman Sr. should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. Their sons are the stars, not them. And they need to remember that going forward. They just need to stand there and give them the fight instructions. That's all they need to do as their sons will do the talking in the ring on fight night.

Fernando Martinez Put Himself Over

If you didn't know who the WBA super flyweight champion was before Thursday's presser, now you know him. Martinez came right onto the stage and in a gutsy move, fronted his opponent, unified super flyweight titlist Jesse "Bam' Rodriguez.

Then the native of Argentina proceeded to proclaim during the presser that he's going to win by knockout. No Rodriguez opponent has ever said that towards "Bam." Martinez capped things off with the staredown in which he showed no fear against the pound-for-pound great.

David Benavidez All Class

The WBC light heavyweight champion has always been one of the classiest individuals in the sport. And in the face of the lunacy we saw between the Haneys and the Normans, Benavidez exemplified why he's the star of this event. He was highly respectful of his opponent, Anthony Yarde, and you could see Benavidez is genuinely excited to be in this position and is looking forward to putting on a show for the fans.
