Devin Haney believes he will be facing the best welterweight in the world when he takes on Brian Norman Jr in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Norman Jr is preparing for the most significant fight of his unbeaten 28-bout career when he defends his WBO welterweight world title against Haney in Riyadh .
In the opposite corner will be former undisputed lightweight champion Haney who is bidding to become a three-weight world champion.
Haney told DAZN : “I'm fighting arguably the best; no, not even arguably – he is the best guy at 147lbs.
“So when I beat him, I become the best guy again at another weight class.
“We did that with Regis [Prograis], he was the best guy 140 and now at 147 we've got the best guy again. I'm ready to go to another weight class.”
Haney registered a lacklustre points win over Jose Carlos Ramirez on May as he returned from a controversial 2024 bout with Ryan Garcia.
That was overturned from a points loss to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
“Down the line, I think that fight will still happen,” Haney said of his rivalry with Garcia.
“There is still unfinished business there, on both sides, so I think that fight will happen still.
“But I’ve fought the best available guy and been at the top level for years now.
“I haven’t been matched with guys so I could look my best – I’ve been matched with guys who could knock me out and beat me.
“Right now he (Norman) is that new guy and when I beat him it’s going to be somebody else and then somebody else.
“In this fight I will be fighting at my natural weight.
“It’s a perfect fight, a perfect opportunity and perfect money. It couldn’t have happened a better way.”
