With each riveting performance, Gabriela Fundora is adding layers to why she’s one of the most exciting fighters to watch in boxing.
‘Sweet Poison’ will look for her third defense of her undisputed flyweight world championship when she clashes with Viviana Ruiz Corredor at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and live on DAZN, tonight. The bout will be part of the main card headlined by Arnold Barboza Jr. vs. Kenneth ‘Bossman’ Sims.
The 23-year-old Fundora (17-0, 9 KOs) delivered two scintillating knockout victories last year, each by seventh-round TKO in first stopping Marilyn Badillo in April and then Alexas Kubicki in September. She faces a Ruiz Corredor (10-2, 5 KOs) who got a split-decision nod over Maria Magdalena Rivera in 2025.
Will Fundora once again flex her growing star power with another eye-popping win? Or will Ruiz Corredor shake the boxing world to its core via a mammoth upset? DAZN News details the Keys to Victory for both the undisputed champ and her game challenger.
Standing 5-foot-8 with 69 inches of reach, Gabriela Fundora often makes her fights look like target practice as she catches her opponents with laser beams of straight left hands.
The southpaw finding an early home with this shot against Viviana Ruiz Corredor will establish the distance and allow Fundora to dictate the terms and pace of the fight.
With seven inches of reach advantage, Fundora has the opportunity to keep peppering Ruiz Corredor with straight lefts. Or she can look to whip a left hook around Ruiz Corredor’s guard to detonate explosive results.
Achieving the latter can force the way toward another resounding titles defense for ‘Sweet Poison'.
Averaging roughly 60 punches a round, Fundora is a high-volume fighter.
This already marks a grand stage for Ruiz Corredor and so Fundora trying to drown her out with constant, breakneck output will only make the 43-year-old fighter feel the squeeze of pressure that much further.
Easier said than done, Viviana Ruiz Corredor must try to get inside of Gabriela Fundora’s long jab.
Surrendering seven inches of reach, Ruiz Corredor can possibly work her way into the phone booth with Fundora by slipping punches or relying on footwork to maneuver her way in.
The danger with this is getting picked off on the outside by the sniping undisputed flyweight queen.
Still, the challenger must try.
Ruiz Corredor makes hard deposits to the body effectively.
Giving up six inches in height, the challenger has the apt vantage point of unloading to Fundora’s midsection in the hopes of lowering the champ’s punch count and perhaps even softening her up enough to land something upstairs.
Ruiz Corredor has a stinging left hook to her fight game and she ought to try to unload it against Fundora.
This shot could especially be helpful if it comes via a counterpunch to an unsuspecting ‘Sweet Poison.’
Forcing Fundora to experience turbulence with this punch could be Ruiz Corredor’s best bet toward an upset.
