The pair could meet at 135lbs.

Ak and Barak weighed up the idea of JoJo Diaz moving on to fight Gervonta Davis as he considers his options in the lightweight division.

Diaz announced himself at lightweight with an impressive win over Javier Fortuna last weekend, after struggling with his weight in his previous outing against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov, which cost him his junior lightweight strap.

Meanwhile, ‘Tank’ Davis fought at 140lbs for the WBA interim championship against Mario Barrios, but may drop down a weight class in pursuit of more fights. Diaz could be that next fight.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Akin Reyes was keen to see the pair meet.

“I'm not upset with that fight. I like that fight. Jojo Diaz isn’t a softball, he's skilled. Gervonta, lately he's been fighting tall, tall, big guys. And they both talk a lot of smack, confident fighters.

“Gervonta  would have to come back down to 135. JoJo Diaz is a former champion. Let's not forget, he did beat Tevin Farmer to an IBF crown. He did lose it on the scales, but there's something there: he's a name, people know who he is. He can fight. He just was the guy that was highly avoided at 135.

“So if not Devin Haney, if not Teofimo Lopez, if not Ryan Garcia or even [Vasiliy] Lomachenko, why not JoJo Diaz?"

Barak Bess thought that Diaz vs. Davis would be a credible fight but thinks Ryan Garcia may be a more suitable opponent for Diaz.

“What does that say about the division when we've been waiting to see clashes like Gervonta Davis and Teofimo Lopez or Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, and then all of a sudden, JoJo Diaz comes up, fights a good opponent, who actually was in line to fight one of those guys wins and then kind of skips the line almost, what does that say about the division?” he asked.

“I would be surprised if that fight happens to Gervonta Davis and Jojo Diaz. I would probably lean towards Jojo Diaz and Ryan Garcia, because they're both Golden Boy. I think let's unify, let's have one undisputed because undisputed — I say this all the time — I mean, you cannot dispute there is no other champion.”
