Ishmael Davis believes he can only keep his dream of a British title shot alive if he defeats Caoimhin Agyarko next month when the pair meet in a major clash in Belfast.

The former, coming off the back of consecutive defeats, will seek to rebuild his reputation at Windsor Park on the undercard of Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan's rematch.

While the headliners battle for the IBF welterweight title, Davis is chasing his own shot at a strap, with suggestions he could challenge for the super-welterweight Lonsdale Belt.

But speaking ahead of his next bout, the star insists he is not looking past Agyarko, though he knows he must prevail in the ring to keep his future prospects on track too.

"I believe that everything happens for a reason," he told The Ring on where his current prospects lie.. “I don't cry over spilt milk. I just get back on the train and keep going.

"I'm in the best position I've been in in my boxing career right now [but] I've got to be beating these guys. Everyone's talking about fighting Sam Gilley for the British title.

"If I don't beat Caoimhin, I don't deserve the British title. I've got to go in there and come out of my comfort zone. I'm going to beat him. I’m a strong-hearted guy."

Davis also reflected on his bout with Serhii Bohachuk, where he was a short-notice replacement for Israil Madrimov and retired after six rounds of the contest.

The experience has been a learning curve for the star, who hopes that his success in the early stages offers proof he can build his way up to become a top-tier operator.

“It’s given me more motivation," he added. "That's the level I want to be at. I showed in the first round that I've got it in me to be at that level."
