Two-time IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia will step into the ring next month with another world title on the line.
Opetaia (29-0, 23 KOs), the current IBF and Ring Magazine title holder, looks to add the inaugural Zuffa Boxing cruiserweight title to his collection when he faces Brandon Glanton on March 8 in Las Vegas.
The bout was announced Tuesday by Zuffa boss Dana White, who confirmed that the newly-formed promotion will be crowning its first-ever world champion at the event.
It will be Opetaia's first fight since he retained the IBF and Ring titles against Huseyin Cinkara, and it will be his first under the Zuffa banner. He takes on Glanton (21-3, 18 KOs), who was last seen defeating Marcus Browne via a sixth-round stoppage in October.
While Opetaia will be favoured to defeat 33-year-old Glanton, White warned that the Aussie could run into some trouble against his American opponent if he's not at the top of his game.
"This guy (Glanton)Â has fight-ending power in both hands, and what's really interesting about this fight too is he's never been stopped," White said in a social media post.Â
No other fights have been announced for the March card as of writing.
