Jai Opetaia returns to the ring this weekend when he defends his cruiserweight world title against Claudio Squeo in Queensland , live on DAZN .
The popular Australian has emerged as one of boxing’s brightest talents in recent years and his world title run has largely been a dominant one.
Opetaia became world champion in 2022 with a superb win over former ruler, Mairis Briedis, and he has since made five successful defences including a second win over Briedis as well as four stoppages.
The heavy-handed star is fast becoming one of his country’s most cherished sport stars and his name is regularly linked to big fights.
That fight takes place on the undercard of Jake Paul’s next outing against Julio Cesar Chavez, and although Opetaia is relishing a fight with Ramirez, that has not prevented him from going in on the popular YouTuber.
“It’s why I don’t even like talking about Jake Paul,” Opetaia said. “That guy, he isn’t world class. C’mon, now. I would bash the s--t out of Jake Paul, literally,” said Opetaia when speaking to Fox Sports Australia .
“But if Jake Paul wants to fight me, bring it on. I’ll absolutely bash him on the way to becoming undisputed, but we know he’s smarter than that.
“These guys, they’re about business. They don’t want to be the best fighter in the world, they want to be the most famous, and there’s a real big difference in the two.”
