Jai Opetaia vs. Huseyin Cinkara: Who has the edge heading into their fight?

DAZN
Masoud vs. McGrail - Saturday - live on DAZN

Jai Opetaia would like nothing more than to unify titles in the cruiserweight division during the New Year.

His first line of order, however, will be to defend his IBF and The Ring cruiserweight world titles in his native Australia against undefeated German Huseyin Cinkara on Saturday night.

Opetaia (28-0, 22 KOs) has gone about his business this year in dismantling Claudio Squeo inside five rounds this past June after producing a fourth-round knockout of David Nyika in January.

Now, he returns to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in the Gold Coast, Australia, looking for another stoppage. Cinkara (23-0, 19 KOs) last scored a fourth-round knockout of Juan Diaz in April, heading into by far the biggest fight of his career.

Will Opetaia make it four straight stoppage victories, positioning himself for a louder 2026? Or will Cinkara shake up the boxing world with what would be a mammoth upset?

DAZN News takes a look at who has the edge in this cruiserweight world title fight.

Boxing Styles

Jai Opetaia’s nimble footwork allows him to pick his spots in producing accurate punches with speed and power in both hands.

The reigning IBF cruiserweight world champion is excellent at seizing his moments, knowing when to throw opponents into the pressure cooker with timed potshots.

Making matters only tougher is Opetaia can get hit only to laser back a counterpunch that does more damage.

The champ’s style will be up against the methodical movements and stalking Huseyin Cinkara delivers in the ring.

Though he hits hard, Cinkara telegraphs many of his shots, signaling that Opetaia could feast with his speed and counterpunching abilities.

Power

Both the cruiserweight champion and challenger pack power with Opetaia counting 22 of his 28 victories by knockout and Cinkara 19 of his 23 wins by stoppage.

But Opetaia’s hand speed and footwork are difference makers in this fight with both working to only amplify his punching power.

Mental Warfare

‘At 40 to Opetaia’s 30, Cinkara has never fought an opponent anywhere near the caliber of the undefeated IBF and The Ring cruiserweight world champion.

With most of his fights in his native Germany, Cinkara has also never fought on a world stage like this.

That is a lot to overcome this weekend which is why he is slugged as a massive underdog heading into this bout.

Opetaia, brimming with punishing skills and confidence, has all the advantage in this category as well.

Who has the edge in Opetaia vs. Cinkara?

Barring an absolute unforeseen spectacular event, Opetaia is expected to roll over Cinkara.

There is a mismatch here in footwork, speed and piecing together combinations that should allow the champ to overwhelm Cinkara with his skills.

It’s why DAZN News gives him the 3-0 edge to win in dynamic fashion and set up bigger fights in 2026.
