Jake Paul will have all of Mexico going against him this weekend, but who is his favourite fighter from the famed boxing nation?
Paul returns to action this Saturday night, live on DAZN , as he steps into the ring with former world middleweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr .
Chavez Jr’s father, Julio Sr, is arguably Mexico's finest ever fighter, and with him being a hero in his homeland, his presence when building this event will have been widely noticed.
At the peak of his powers, Chavez Jr was a serious threat at 160lbs as he recorded several impressive wins before a loss to Sergio Martinez in 2012 signaled a downturn in form.
In 2021, Chavez Jr suffered a defeat against Anderson Silva, and the manner of the performance, against a boxing novice, suggested to many that Chavez Jr was heading towards the exit door.
Against Paul, Chavez Jr has the opportunity to dismiss retirement talk, but he will have to overcome huge odds as he starts the fight a significant underdog.
With Paul aiming to get past another world champion after outpointing Mike Tyson last November, the chance to register a win over one of boxing’s most iconic surnames will surely appeal.
On the subject of Mexican boxers, Paul was recently asked his favourite boxer, and despite a long list to choose from, he had no hesitation providing his answer.
“I would say my favourite Mexican fighter is David Benavidez,” said Paul when speaking exclusively to DAZN News .
Benavidez, an Arizonian with Mexican heritage, has won a world title at super-middleweight and has long been linked to a showdown with another Paul rival, Canelo Alvarez.
Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will be streamed exclusively on DAZN PPV, this Saturday, June 28. Buy the PPV now here
