James ‘Jazza’ Dickens is the reigning WBA super featherweight world champion, but he has been installed by oddsmakers as the underdog against Anthony Cacace.
Dickens will look to record his first title defense and silence naysayers tonight when he clashes with Cacace at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, and live on DAZN.
Dickens (36-5, 15 KOs) defeated Albert Batyrgaziev via corner stoppage in July to win the interim WBA title before being elevated to full status champion. Cacace (24-1, 9 KOs) last generated a ninth-round TKO of Leigh Wood in May and will be looking to become a two-time super featherweight titleholder.
Will Dickens record his biggest career win to date, keeping the WBA title wrapped around his waist? Or will Cacace celebrate St. Patrick’s Day weekend by becoming the new WBA champ at 130 pounds? With the stakes reaching a fever pitch, DAZN News analyzes the Keys to Victory between both fighters.
James ‘Jazza’ Dickens does a solid job of keeping his jab compact and stiff, using the weapon to pressure opponents.
Doing this against a longer, rangier Anthony Cacace will allow the WBA super featherweight world champion to fight forward and negate the Irish fighter’s reach. Therefore, a crisp jab is a must.
Dickens is surrendering five inches in height and a startling eight more in reach to Cacace.
Changing levels and making hard deposits to the body is a must for the champ to push his way inside of Dickens’ jab.
Dickens already possesses an effective inside game when dipping low and exploding up into opponents’ ribcage with short, pounding shots. Doing this effectively against Cacace could slow the Irish fighter down enough to land something more devastating upstairs.
Within the natural flow of his offence, Dickens launches an overhand left quite emphatically. Catching Cacace with the shot flush following a miss or while in traffic could be the punch needed to alter the fight in Dickens’ favor.
Anthony Cacace must use his length to disrupt and even pummel James ‘Jazza’ Dickens. That means finding a home with a prodding left hand for the southpaw Irishman.
Once Cacace lands this shot with consistency, he can start fighting forward in trying to force the champ onto his back foot.
Watch Cacace in action and the way he disguises his uppercut is a thing of slick boxing beauty.
He did this pointedly against Leigh Wood last spring, tapping the Brit’s high, tight guard with a left hand only to crank an uppercut right through the teeth of the defense.
Considering Dickens is even shorter, Cacace has the vantage point to execute the same offense all within the flow of his forward-fighting motion.
Cacace’s ability to piece together punches in bursts is special as it often catches opponents by surprise.
The Irish fighter can bundle these combinations together with deceptive hand speed that could give Dickens fits … and end his title reign altogether.
