Joey Essex insists that working with Tony Sims has been a relationship built on professional respect for his uncle as he prepares for his Misfits 22 debut.
The television personality faces Numeiro at Manchster's AO Arena as part of the Ring of Thrones fight card on Saturday, live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Essex is the nephew of Sims, one of the most respected British cornermen of his generation, and has worked with him for what will be his first full fight.
Though eyebrows have been raised over the 35-year-old's transition into the sport, the star insists he is ready after ensuring he stuck to his training plans.
"It's been really nice, being around family, being around Tony," he told The Stomping Ground. "We are a close family. We've spent a lot of time together.
"In that sense, it's been a breeze. Tony, he has been tough. He might say he's not strict, but you can't get away with Tony. You've got to do as you're told.
"He's a professional coach, and I look at him like that. I feel good. The closer we get to the fight, I'm getting more confident. I couldn't have done any better.
"I believe in myself in fully. This camp, I could not have gone any further. It felt like I went to hell and back. But my last day sparring, it felt like Christmas. It was gold.
"It was a celebration, because it felt like I have passed the test already. I feel I couldn't have done any more. It's nice to finally be here. It's like a dream come true."
