Keyshawn Davis vs. Nahir Albright 2: Who has the edge heading into their rematch?

Keyshawn Davis has been gifted a second chance. After tipping the scale overweight to have his headlining homecoming fight cancelled last June, the former lightweight world champion returns to his hometown of Norfolk, Viriginia to make amends. There, at Scope Arena, and live on DAZN, Davis will fight Nahir Albright in a rematch Saturday night.

Davis defeated Albright via majority decision in October 2023, but the ruling was turned into a no-contest after ‘The Businessman’ tested positive for marijuana. Last June at the same Norfolk venue, Davis (14-0 with 1 no contest, 10 KOs) was slated to defend his WBO lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos, only to weigh in 4.3 pounds over the limit. That stripped him of the title. Albright, who defeated Davis’ brother Kelvin Davis earlier that night, told ESPN that Keyshawn Davis and brother, Keon Davis, jumped him backstage.

Davis took the rest of the year off to get his mind right, returning this past January to stop Jamaine Ortiz in the 12th round. Albright enters having last battled Frank Martin to a hard-fought draw in February.

Will ‘The Businessman’ close out this rivalry by stopping a fourth straight opponent who has never been stopped? Or will Albright prove to be too pesky in pulling off the upset? DAZN News examines who has the edge in Saturday night’s rematch.

Boxing Styles

Keyshawn Davis a scrappy fighter who feints and changes levels to pull opponents out of position, tagging them with ultra-sharp potshots to split their guard. The former lightweight world champion uses his ring real estate exceptionally, whether knowing when to use space to land a clean jab from the outside or pouncing inside. And when fighters make mistakes, Davis always seems to be in position to make them pay with stinging, quick counters.

Davis’ style clashes with that of Nahir Albright, who is a shifty, somewhat awkward Philadelphia fighter skilled in producing clean shots and roughing up fighters on the inside with pure persistence.

In their original outing, both Davis and Albright tagged each other with clean shots, with the former being the overall more sound boxer. A rejuvenated Davis gets the edge in this category, though Albright's complex style makes this close.

Edge: Davis

Power

‘Thee Amazing’ Keyshawn Davis has been on a tear of knocking out fighters, stopping three straight boxers who never been stopped and now looking to make Albright four.

What’s special about this streak is how Davis is systematically breaking opponents down, whether over a short number of rounds or more.

There’s no doubt the snap to his punch carries power that chips away at fighters until they succumb. He gets the nod here comfortably.

Edge: Davis

Mental Warfare

When it comes to Albright, nothing has shaken out well for Davis and it’s mostly due to ‘The Businessman’s’ own indiscretions. After defeating Albright by majority decision in October 2023, Davis tested positive for marijuana, changing his win into a no contest.

Last June, Albright defeated Davis’s brother, Kelvin Davis, before he alleged that he was jumped by Davis' siblings, Keyshawn and Keon.

All of this — and the homecoming fight — should motivate Davis to the max to not only win, but produce an exclamation point against Albright.

Albright is seasoned, oozing with ring savvy, but it’s hard to dispel the ambition Davis is carrying into this bout. As long as he tempers his emotions, Davis should have the mental warfare advantage, considering he already has defeated Albright.

Who has the edge in Davis vs. Albright?

Albright has an awkward style that could make it a difficult night in the office for ‘The Businessman,’ but Davis is overflowing with sweet science skills and confidence. It’s why DAZN News is giving him the 3-0 edge, though it might be another closely-contested affair.
