Oscar De La Hoya had to be restrained at the final press conference hyping Ryan Garcia’s upcoming clash with Rolly Romero.
The legendary fighter, one of the modern era’s best operators, is now one of the sport’s leading promoters, but he seemingly forgot his role when the action got heated in New York City.
De La Hoya was in town to help publicise this weekend’s huge show in Times Square, live on DAZN PPV, that will feature a number of the sport’s leading names.
As well as Garcia vs Romero, Devin Haney, one of Garcia’s biggest rivals, will also be in action when he faces Jose Ramirez.
Garcia and Ramirez are both guided by De La Hoya, and he felt the need to represent both his men when he was the recipient of some verbal abuse from Haney’s father, Bill.
De La Hoya immediately stood up and made attempts to remove his jacket whilst heading in Haney Sr’s direction.
Members of the promotion were quick to calm De La Hoya down, but nostalgic fans will have raised a smile seeing ‘The Golden Boy’ revert to fight mode 17 years after his final outing against Manny Pacquiao.
The exchange brought a huge reaction from the crowd in attendance who were prompted to chant ‘Oscar’ by Teofimo Lopez, who is also on the card.
The show goes down this Friday night and it promises to be an explosive affair.
