Tonight could be a major moment for American boxing.
At Fort Worth's Dickies Arena, live on DAZN, Vergil Ortiz Jr. takes on Erickson Lubin in a super welterweight contest that has significant implications.
A win for Ortiz Jr. would surely set up a meeting with former unified welterweight champion Jaron Ennis, who made his debut at 154lbs last month with his first-round knockout win against Uisma Lima.
In the aftermath, Ennis' promoter, Eddie Hearn, began calling out Ortiz and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, to make this all-American showdown.
Now 'Boots' and Hearn have a chance to kick off the build-up by being ringside at the Dickies Arena, but will they be there?
DAZN News attempts to find out.
In an interview with Ring Magazine earlier this week, Hearn confirmed that he will be making the trip with Ennis to be ringside for Ortiz Jr.'s clash with Lubin.
The Ennis and Ortiz camps have been going back and forth in the build-up, accusing each other of not being willing to make the fight.
By being ringside at the Dickies Arena, Hearn is hoping this can be what's needed to make what would be one of the biggest fights of 2026.
"So, myself and Boots will be flying to Dallas for Vergil Ortiz against Lubin to show our desire to make that fight. And I know that Oscar and Eric, they wanna make great fights," Hearn said.
"I think they’re up for it as well, so I just hope that Vergil and his team truly want that fight."
The war of words continued at Thursday's final press conference, with Ortiz's promoter Oscar De La Hoya urging Hearn and Ennis not to be in attendance this evening.
"People are talking about the next fight possibly being against ‘Boots’ Ennis if Vergil wins," De La Hoya told the world's media.
“I hear ‘Boots’ is coming to the fight with Eddie Hearn, and my worry is if they are going to see Vergil in person, they’re not going to want to fight him.
“So, maybe you should just stay home and watch it at home, because Vergil Ortiz Jr. in person is a dangerous man.”
If Ortiz is triumphant and then engages in a face-off with Ennis inside the ring, then keep one eye on promoters De La Hoya and Hearn, who won't be afraid to go head-to-head as two of boxing's most electric personalities.
