Oscar De La Hoya: I'm ready to fight Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, it would be excitingMatchroom
The 48-year-old American is preparing for his long-awaited comeback.

Six-weight world champion Oscar De La Hoya sees no reason why his comeback cannot lead to a fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

48-year-old De La Hoya is preparing to fight former UFC champion Vitor Belfort, 44, on September 11 as they both prepare to come out of retirement.

The event will be a professional match rather than an exhibition that many legends have indulged in over the past couple of months, and De La Hoya has said that he intends to take this comeback serious.

Speaking to Fight Hub, De La Hoya was open to the notion of a Canelo fight.

“I mean look, in the scope of things it’s like, ‘Okay, maybe it can,’ but it’s like, ‘Why not?’ He’s the best out there, I’ve fought the best,” he said/

He went on to suggest that Canelo may be the best in modern boxing, but he believes he fought more talented boxers in the past.

“I’ve actually fought way better than that,” he explaind.

“It’s like, ‘Yeah, he’s the best now, today, but yesterday the best was a lot better,’ and I’ve fought everybody.

“So the fact that something can lead up to that, with me and Canelo, why not? And if people want to see me knocked out then tune in. If you think I can beat him, tune in. I’ve never been in a boring fight, I never dodged anybody, I've never been in there and only thrown three punches a round. If you want to see boring or you want to see exciting, you choose.”
