Jack Rafferty vs Mark Chamberlain: Who has the edge heading into their fight?

Rafferty vs Chamberlain - Saturday - Subscribe now

Undefeated through 26 fights with a knockout streak of six straight bouts, Jack Rafferty is making a name for himself at super lightweight.

The ‘Demolition Man’ will look to further his fighting profile Saturday night at Planet Ice in Altrincham, United Kingdom, and live on DAZN, when he clashes with a rugged Mark Chamberlain. Rafferty’s British and Commonwealth super lightweight titles will be on the line.

Rafferty (26-0, 17 KOs) is coming off a fifth-round TKO of Cory O'Regan in April, while Chamberlain (17-1, 12 KOs) bounced back from a unanimous decision loss to Josh Padley last fall with a points win over Miguel Angel Scaringi that same month.

Neither man can afford a setback, making this bout a pivotal one at 140 pounds. Therefore, DAZN News analyzes who has the edge between these British fighters.

Jack Rafferty enjoys dictating the pace off the front foot with forward-fighting motion powered by a well-conditioned motor.

While that relentless pressure wears on opponents, Rafferty often shows too much of a willingness to take one to land one of his own. In the process, he leaves himself vulnerable especially to a southpaw like Mark Chamberlain.

Chamberlain has already refused to hit and run against Rafferty, promising an explosive bout instead.

While pressing opponents, Chamberlain often stands too upright, leaving his 5-foot-9 frame open to punches as well — something Rafferty will have to spot and exploit as he closes the distance.

Cutting the ring in half and then pushing for phone booth action is what Rafferty does best.

Power

Both Rafferty and Chamberlain have power to their punch, with the former having produced six straight stoppage wins and earning the right to be called the ‘Demolition Man.’

That said, Chamberlain touts the higher knockout percentage at 70 percent and gets the slight nod here.

His power should only grow as he gets settled at 140 pounds.

Mental Warfare

During the press conference, Rafferty referred to this headliner at home, and live on DAZN, as “The Rafferty Show.”

With that comes prestige but also a shouldered burden, though momentum has been largely on his side.

Perhaps the six consecutive knockout wins entering this bout spell that it is indeed Rafferty’s time, though Chamberlain coming up to super lightweight will try to prove otherwise.

Both men are hungry, but Rafferty’s imposing will could very well be the difference when it comes to mental warfare.

Who has the edge in Rafferty vs Chamberlain?

Rafferty and Chamberlain are both anticipating fireworks with each man refusing to be put on the back foot.

The super lightweight division touts world champions such as Teofimo Lopez, Richardson Hitchins, Gary Antuanne Russell and Subriel Matias. If Rafferty and Chamberlain want to be in that mix and one step closer to title contention, a rousing victory must be delivered.

DAZN News has Rafferty with the 2-1 edge to have his hand raised, pointing to his persistence in the pocket and nonstop motor as the main reasons, though Chamberlain can upset that especially if he forces the former to let his hands fly so he can capitalize on an opening.
