Roy Jones confirms talks have taken place to face crossover boxing starDAZN
The boxing legend is interested in a fight with one particular name.

Former four-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr. has revealed that talks have taken place for him to face crossover boxing star Tommy Fury.

While initially retiring from the sport in February 2018, Jones has since laced up the gloves years later. First came an exhibition contest with Mike Tyson in 2020, and this was then followed by a clash with former UFC welterweight champion Anthony Pettis in a professional bout. Unfortunately for Jones, the latter was a fight which he would lose by majority decision.

Now it looks like Jones could be returning to the ring with talks underway to face the younger brother of WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Speaking to Betway, Jones pulled back the curtain on the talks that have taken and even set a possible date for the contest.

"There is truth to that, we spoke in Saudi Arabia because of the fact that John Fury was with Tyson," Jones responded when asked whether rumours about the talks were true surrounding a potential fight with Tommy Fury.

"Me and Fury family, we have a lot of history. I was one of the people who told Tyson five or six years back that he could come back and beat all of them and that’s what he has done.

"To be in the ring with somebody from the social media era and have a big fight with Tommy Fury, I may not be who I was but to be in with against someone from the YouTube era, it’s a different type of thing and can captivate the audience. I think it’s a good thing.

"The fight would have to happen early next year. He’s definitely a legitimate fighter, he’s not a bad fighter at all and he comes from a family of fighters. Sometimes he doesn’t take fighters as seriously as he should. It’s like Tyson, he didn’t take Francis Ngannou as seriously as he should but when he is fighting someone like Oleksandr Usyk it’ll be different."

Tommy Fury had a successful 2023 in the world of crossover boxing.

First he beat Jake Paul in what was the American's first defeat as a boxer in February before overcoming fellow Brit KSI in a huge MF & DAZN: X Series event in Manchester last month.
