Shannon Briggs was once a world heavyweight champion.

Former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has named boxing legend George Foreman as the hardest puncher he has faced in the ring.

Briggs gained a reputation for being a brutal fighter during his 24 years as a professional with 53 of his 60 wins coming by way of knockout.

In addition to becoming a feared operator, Briggs also became a world champion when he stopped Siarhei Liakhovich in 2006 to claim the WBO world heavyweight title.

Briggs has shared the ring with the likes of Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko during his professional career, but it's the clash with Foreman and his power 26 years ago that sticks in the mind of the 51-year-old veteran.

"He was an amazing fighter, one of the greatest of all-times. To be in the ring with him was crazy, his presence, his jab, everything was like ‘damn’," Briggs told the JAXXON Podcast when reflecting on his fight with Foreman.

“He was one of the greats, I was trying to survive and not get killed by George Foreman, he was beating everybody.

"He hit me so hard I couldn’t believe, I couldn’t sleep for two weeks. He gave me vertigo, he was hitting hard."
