Lennox Lewis is rightly regarded as one of the heavyweight division’s best fighters, but who he does he consider the best puncher he ever faced during his illustrious career?
Lewis was an Olympic gold medallist and heavyweight champion as he featured in multiple high-profile fights against some of his era’s biggest names.
After blasting the likes of Razor Ruddock and Frank Bruno, Lewis was firmly established as one of the major players in the heavyweight division during a golden era, but he would face some hardship as he was stopped by both Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman.
Lewis would get revenge on both with emphatic wins, but neither man is the biggest hitter he ever shared a ring with.
After memorable battles with Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, and Vitali Klitschko, Lewis endured many hard nights against some of boxing’s most powerful names, but it is Shannon Briggs who he claims hit him the hardest.
Lewis faced Briggs in 1998 and after receiving some big shots from the brash New Yorker, he was able to get the job done in five rounds
He lacked endurance but Briggs certainly knew how to put his body weight behind a punch,” said Lewis when speaking to The Ring.
“Unfortunately for him you need the full package when you face me, so power isn’t enough. Fans may expect me to say McCall or Hasim Rahman for punching power, but I basically set myself up against both of them.”
