Roy Jones Jr. has likened WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley to boxing legend George Foreman.Â
The comment was made two days after the build-up for Wardley's world heavyweight title defence against Daniel Dubois officially got underway.Â
The two Brits will meet in Manchester on May 9, exclusively live on DAZN PPV, in a contest which many expect to be punishing and end by knockout.Â
What makes Wardley's clash with Dubois a fascinating clash is the punching power both men possess.Â
Both men boast a 95% knockout record, and Wardley has made a name for himself with his knockout wins which have powered him to world champion status.Â
What has become more impressive from Wardley is that he ends his fights on a strong footing, with the knockout wins over Justis Huni and Joseph Parker coming in rounds 10 and 11 respectively.Â
This makes Wardley a unique and special heavyweight talent, and this has earned the respect of Jones Jr. who compared the Ipswich man to a boxing legend.Â
"Dubois is probably the better technical guy, but what I tell people is that Wardley is the modern day George Foreman," Jones Jr. told Queensberry Promotions.Â
"Don’t ever count this guy out. When you think it’s over for him, he comes out of the tombstone."
Wardley enters his fight with Dubois undefeated in 21 professional bouts, but Dubois is a serious threat.Â
Despite losing to Oleksandr Usyk in July, Dubois has shown he can beat up the best the heavyweight division has to offer with his stoppage win over Anthony Joshua two years ago a prime example.
The WBO world heavyweight title is on the line for Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois on May 9, only on DAZN PPV. Buy as a one-off PPV or included with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription.
