Ben Whittaker begins the next stage - and most important - of his career this weekend as he makes his Matchroom debut against Benjamin Gavazi, live on DAZN .
After a difficult 2024, the Olympic Silver medallist is now determined to get his career flying again and speed up his journey to world title challenges. Both he and promoter Eddie Hearn hope his move to Matchroom will bring the creditability and success both crave.
Whittaker has already transcended the sport into the mainstream media and he has a huge social media following due to his his outgoing personality and showboating. Now, as highlighted by Hearn, he needs the right fights and activity to show his boxing skills and edge to back up the showmanship.
German Gavazi offers a tough test for his Matchroom birth and Whittaker knows he needs to match the hype with a five star performance.
That began at Thursday's press conference as Whittaker addressed the world, looking in confident and focused mood, with the showboating put on pause for now.
Whittaker said: "I feel good, I look good. When you are like this you shine, and I will shine on Saturday night.
"He [Gavazi] says he doesn't see anything special in me. All well and good saying that in an interview. But come saturday, he and everyone will see what's special about me.
"I can handle the pressure put on me, I'll prove that. I'm going to look sexy and do what I do"
