David Benavidez has a big fight ahead of him this weekend, but that has not prevented the current WBC light-heavyweight champion from discussing other bouts that are on the horizon.
On Saturday night, Benavidez will main event a huge show in Saudi Arabia, live on DAZN, as he looks to get past Anthony Yarde in what promises to be an explosive encounter.
Benavidez is hoping to secure another major blockbuster next year against either Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev, but he can only do that by preserving his unbeaten record against Yarde.
Another fight coming up later in the year sees Jake Paul take an incredible step up against former world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua.
Paul was originally set to be taking on Gervonta Davis, but when that fight was called off, it was Joshua who stepped in to present Paul with an altogether different problem.
Joshua is expected to make light work of his novice opponent, and despite the gulf in class and experience, Benavidez has provided Paul with plenty of credit for taking on such a dangerous assignment.
“I give 100% respect to Jake Paul, but that’s a dangerous fight for him,” said Benavidez when speaking to Fight Hub TV.
“He probably gets knocked out, and I’m not trying to be a hater. I’m not saying nothing bad, but Anthony Joshua is Anthony Joshua.
“He’s multiple-time champion, an Olympic gold medallist, the last time somebody stepped in the ring with him that didn’t have that much boxing experience was Ngannou, and you’ve seen what happened to him.
“But, big respect to Jake Paul. It’s gonna be a good card, it’s a big, big fight, and it’s a good fight, man. I mean, I give 100% respect to Jake Paul for even taking that fight.”
