At the age of 35, Dominick Reyes (14-4) will face Nikita Krylov (30-9) at UFC 314 as he looks for a third straight victory following a four-fight losing streak.
In 2020, Reyes, then still undefeated, faced Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight belt in a fight he lost by unanimous decision after five rounds.
But for many, the fight will go down as a victory for Reyes, with 14 of 21 media outlets scoring the fight in his favour. While it was a turning point for Reyes' career as it began the losing skid that stretched across two-and-a-half years, the Califonia native isn't dwelling on it.
"It's literally the past," Reyes told DAZN News. "I'm fighting Nikita on Saturday, so it doesn't really... It's just something that we're trapped in, in history forever. I
"It's a great battle that's been put into the minds of the world. I’m still around, he's still around, so people want to talk about it because there was injustice."
After that defeat, the light-heavyweight fighter suffered setbacks against Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka and Ryan Spann, before winning his last two fights. But as he confided, at no point did he think about quitting.
"Never," he said.
